It’s natural to take comfort in that which is familiar. When we live in an environment we are used to, we feel safe. But there is also a danger in doing only what we’re used to: we stagnate, we get bored, and as a result, life flies by all too quickly.
Bestselling author and international speaker Brian Tracy puts it perfectly: “Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” Whether it’s ordering something different at a restaurant, trying your hand at a new sport, or visiting a destination you’ve never been to, do it. Life is an adventure – take some risks.
In this month’s Smile, we challenge you to do just that. Gather the guts to skydive in Jakarta, whitewater raft on the Davao River or scale the side of a rocky mountain in Cebu with our list of “5 Ways to get an Adrenaline Rush” (page
20). Maida Pineda takes your tastebuds on a food adventure of an extreme kind – turn to “Would You Dare Eat These?” (page 31) for her list of the country’s most exotic fare. If you’ve always preferred free and easy vacations, inject some action into it. Head to the Lion City this month for the Singapore Grand Prix Season and witness the world’s first Formula One night race and more (Claire B. de Guzman has your itinerary in “Life on the Fast Lane”, page 36).
Whether you decide to take a small or big risk doesn’t matter. Sometimes, all you need is one thing to enlarge your experience. Just ask Graham Bond, the Shanghai-based British travel writer (see the “The Bond Identity” on page 24). Merely having the same name as that of Ian Fleming’s world-famous spy in China was all it took to usher in a more exciting life for him, filled with trips to exotic places and adventures beyond his wildest dreams.
We hope this Smile whets your appetite for adventure. And wherever you choose to go or whatever you plan to do, Cebu Pacific will help take you out of your comfort zone – and then safely back to it.
Wishing you an exciting journey ahead!
