WELCOME

It’s Smile’s second anniversary, and we definitely have a lot of reasons to smile! Cebu Pacific Airlines has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 24 months, and Smile has been a witness to this amazing growth. From three international and 23 domestic desitinations in 2006, our network now spans 14 international cities and 27 domestic locales. From two operational hubs, we now have four, including Davao and this month’s launch of the Clark hub, which is all geared up to service international jaunts to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Macau and Singapore. Recently, we’ve also moved all Cebu Pacific operations to a bigger and better terminal - NAIA-3. The result? An exemplary on-time performance of 86.5 percent within just one month of operations from our new “home”.

For our anniversary issue, we’re taking time to honor World Animal Day, which happens every October 4 all around the globe. This is why we picked Tupa, a Malay Fish Owl, to be one of our cover models. You can see Tupa and other rare and exotic birds at Jurong Pird Bark in Singapore (page 19).

We also take you into the wild world of extreme birdwatching. No, this is not some boring pastime (turn to page 34). Birdwatching has been called the fastest growing outdoor activity in the United States, but here in the country, it’s taking off as well. As the Philippines is rich in bird species – with over 200 endemic to the land – avid birders from across the globe are flying in to engage in this hobby. In short, we’re fast becoming a prime destination for birdwatching. Our feature on the Manila Ocean Park (page 46) will give you a newfound interest in marine life.

So what’s next for Smile and Cebu Pacific in the coming year? Only bigger, better and brighter things. We don’t like resting on our laurels, and insist on pushing the envelope even further. That way, you’ll have more reasons to smile as well.

Wishing you a pleasant journey!
