Hello, Osaka!
There is a castle, a sky tower with a floating garden observatory 500 feet in the air, plus an abundance of food, shopping and entertainment options. But most of all, because Osaka is in Japan, it remains among the most exciting places in the world to visit, thanks to Sony, Nintendo, Hello Kitty and a million other Japanese global innovations.
Cebu Pacific (CEB) has become the latest airline to fly to Osaka, Japan’s unofficial second city and food capital. Starting November 20, CEB takes off from Manila to Osaka three times a week. Using its 179-seater A320 aircraft, the spanking new service departs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 1.40pm, arriving in Osaka at 6.35pm. The return trip takes off at 7.20pm and arrives in Manila at 10.15pm. Osaka is CEB’s first
destination in Japan and its fifteenth in Asia after Bangkok, Guangzhou, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kaohsiung, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Pusan, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, and Taipei.
And with its very affordable “Go” fare of PHP3,999 – that is 40% less than the current fares offered by other airlines for the Manila-Osaka route – tickets are bound to sell like hotcakes. What’s more, with Christmas just around the corner, more families will be reunited for the holidays. “The Manila-Osaka service will allow our overseas Filipino workers to come home more frequently because of our trademark low fares,” says Lance Y. Gokongwei, CEB President and CEO. Book your Osaka tickets now at www.cebupacificair.com
IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’S A BRAND NEW ATR 72-500!
Cebu Pacific Airlines received its third brand new ATR 72-500 turbo-prop aircraft from Toulouse, France last September. The aircraft will be based in the airline’s Cebu hub to support plans of expanding the flight network. What makes the ATR 72-500 a cutting edge aircraft in the turbo-prop class? Three things: its reliability, ease of maintenance and ability to land on short runways. The airline has ordered 18 brand new ATR aircrafts, with two new planes arriving in November and December.
Getting Better all the Time
If you need proof that the people at Cebu Pacific (CEB) are serious about taking off on time, check the website. The country’s leading domestic airline has decided to publish its monthly On-Time Performance (OTP) on www.cebupacificair.com starting this month. Much like a report card, this OTP is a reminder to ensure that all their flights leave on the dot, each time. “By uploading our OTP on our website, we will always be reminded to perform according to world standards,” says Candice Iyog, CEB vice president for marketing and distribution.
Based on international practices, a flight is considered on time if it departs within 15 minutes of its original estimated time of departure. In this connection, CEB’s OTP for the month of September was 84.8% for all domestic and international flights – a figure that has significantly improved since the airline transferred its operations to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
“We hope that Cebu Pacific will set a precedent among Philippine carriers to publish their monthly OTPs in their website because this will make all carriers conscious about delivering on-time service,” says Iyog. To check flights that leave on time, go to www.cebupacificair.com
Bright Skies, Brighter Future
With all the bleak news on Planet Earth, it’s encouraging to hear we can actually do something about it. Project Bright Skies – the carbon emissions offsetting advocacy of Cebu Pacific (CEB) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) – gets you involved. The program, established last July 19, encourages CEB passengers to offset carbon emissions through WWF donations made via the website (www.cebupacificair.com). When you book a flight online, you can opt to join this carbon offsetting program. Your contribution is pre-computed based on the estimated amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by your flight’s actual distance. The amount of CO2 is assigned a value based on international voluntary offset prices per ton of carbon dioxide. The contribution amount will then be included in your summary of costs. Most CEB passengers generously gave to Project Bright Skies, generating PHP565,376 in cash donations last August.
“We are taking the lead because we need to create a sustainable adaptation program in the country,” Lance Gokongwei says. “We thank our Bright Skies passengers. The results are encouraging and we hope more will continue to help us fight climate change.”
In addition to Project Bright Skies, passengers booking online can opt to contribute towards WWF’s adaptation projects in Apo Reef, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. Click on www.cebupacificair.com to book now and do your part for brighter, bluer skies!
