WELCOME

Good luck — who doesn’t want more of that? Whether you are superstitious or not, learning what other cultures believe about improving one’s destiny couldn’t hurt now, could it?

For this month’s cover story for Smile, Tina Arceo-Dumlao takes us across the Cebu Pacific network and introduces us to lucky charms, places, food and rituals in 10 Asian cities. Her article, It’s in the Cards (page 41) is fascinating and may have you trying things out for love, longevity and prosperity.

Macau, a city dubbed “The Las Vegas of the East”, may be known more for roulette tables than dining tables. But Hong Kong-based writer, Euan McKirdy explored the former Portuguese colony to prove otherwise, finding exciting restaurants on the casino strip in Hit the Tables (page 32). While you’re there, why not try and win a million dollars?

One of our favorite wanderers, Troy Bernardo, went in search of exciting, new luxury resorts in the Philippines. He discovered places that offer indulgent trappings while celebrating the spirit. You’ll understand what I am talking about when you turn to Soulful Indulgence (page 46).

One of our newest flight routes is to Catarman in Northern Samar, and Jennilyn Salvador’s piece, Fantasy Islands (page 54) will leave you awestruck.

So whether you want a serene retreat, a rough and exciting holiday, or a vanity trip to refresh your looks, you’ll find what you’re looking for in this issue. The hard part? Choosing what to read first.

Happy travels, everyone!
