HOW TO… PROPERLY STORE YOUR BAGS

1 Place old clothes inside the bags to help retain their shape.

2 Insert them inside dust bags or — to save money — old pillowcases. This prevents colors from fading and dust from accumulating.

3 Undo any buckles to avoid leaving dents on the strap surfaces.

4 Clean the bags before storing so stains don’t set. This counters any kind of damage as well.

5 There’s no need to put moth balls inside the bags — the strong odor will just linger. Just scatter a few around the storage area.

What’s in his travel bag?

Gerry Sy-Quia, a physician who loves adventure travel, prefers sturdy, practical gear. “I always have spare batteries, Salomon Pro Amphib shoes, anti-spasmotic meds, a set of disposable underwear and my pocket-sized camera. Making memories is one of the best parts of traveling.”
