Our CEO Lance Gokongwei welcomes you onboard

Gotoujo arigatou gozaimasu! Why am I welcoming you aboard a 100% Filipino airline in Japanese? Well, it’s simply because this month, we’ve expanded Cebu Pacific’s (CEB) operations to include the dynamic city of Osaka. Located on the main island of Honshu, Osaka is roughly in the center of Japan, and it offers tourists a rich cultural past and exciting urban attractions in the way of food, shopping and a lively nightlife. On page 38, writer Sarah Woods takes you to the city’s trendiest clubs, pubs, and bars in Oh-so-hip Osaka. She even teaches you some Japanese phrases so you can easily navigate your way around the city.

In this issue, we also celebrate creativity in all its forms. Just like heroes and rebels, artists can change the way we think and feel through their work. With oil on canvas, Filipino master artist Fernando Amorsolo created idyllic images of working peasants and beautiful women that have become part of our national consciousness. He is being paid a grand tribute with exhibitions at seven of the finest museums in Metro Manila (page 14), so do check that out.

In Creative Spaces (page 30), Pi Villaraza speaks to three Mindanao-based Filipino artists – Kublai Millan, Rosalie Zerrudo and Waway Saway – about their motivations and the breathtaking nature-filled places that inspire them. In Weaving Dreams, the industrious women of Payatas show us how making homemade rugs has improved their lives – and even led them to a designing career with the help of fashion designer Rajo Laurel. Read their inspiring story on page 61. Art is everywhere – even in the shopping mecca of Singapore. Diyana Alan takes us to the Lion City’s most creative spots on page 25, proving that there is more to her city than spicy food and the Great Singapore Sale.

Here’s to a happy, art-full trip ahead!
